Know Before You Fly Kit Spare Parts & Upgrades
These drone kits have been made available with federal funding and distributed by communication with the nation’s 25 largest school districts and other national organizations that support youth education. Kits help teach 9th- through 12th-grade students about science, aerodynamics, engineering principles, aviation principles, drones, and safe flying practices. Additionally, this effort encourages students to pursue careers in aviation-related fields. Each kit contains all of the necessary components and instructions to assemble a small drone, including goggles for optional first-person-view flying. This page houses resources for educators to use the kits with students. Questions? Contact KBYF_DroneKit@modelaircraft.org

This video includes step-by-step instructions to assemble the drone, bind it to the transmitter, adjust the video transmission channel on the monitor, change the on-screen display, and an introduction to piloting the drone using the transmitter.
Student Drone Kit Unit of Study
This document is a comprehensive resource that helps educators use the drone kits with students using activities that correspond to NextGen Science Standards. The unit includes background information, a career pathways investigation, and a drone science lesson in forces and motion with free body diagrams and formulas to better understand the physics of why and how these aircraft move. For the culminating activity, students use real-world engineering to develop a drone course to specification for a time-trial and/or racing tournament. The unit also includes journal-writing prompts, definitions, and recommended additional resources. Throughout the unit of study, career skills are highlighted and practical tips on implementation are provided.
Drone Instruction Manual
This is the PDF version of the printed instruction booklet that comes with each drone kit. It includes written step-by-step assembly instructions with photographs and other important information from the manufacturer, as well as safety and regulatory information and advice on how to achieve successful flights.
